The15th-ranked Charlotte 49ers (1-1) play 12th-ranked Coastal Carolina (1-1) on the road, Friday, September 6 at 7 pm. This game will mark the beginning of a three-game road swing for the 49ers.

The 49ers began the season with an impressive 2-0 road win at Denver last Friday. Giuseppe Gentile scored both of Charlotte’s goals in that game. Goalkeeper Klay Davis earned Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in that game. Then, the 49ers lost to UNCG, 1-0, in their home opener this past Tuesday. The 49ers finished the UNCG game with a 15-4 advantage in shots.

The Charlotte-Coastal Carolina game will mark the ninth meeting between the two teams. Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series, 4-3-1. However, the 49ers have won the last two meetings between the two teams. Charlotte defeated Coastal Carolina, 1-0, in double overtime at Transamerica Field in their last meeting, August 27, 2012. Defender Thomas Allen not only helped the 49ers record a shutout in that game but he also scored the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute. Charlotte defeated Coastal Carolina, 2-1, in their last meeting at Coastal Carolina, August 29, 2011. Former 49ers standout Evan James scored both of Charlotte’s goals in the game.
