WASHINGTON, DC - Three 49ers scored in double-figures but the Charlotte 49ers (16-4, A-10: 4-2) lost on the road at George Washington (10-9, A-10: 4-2), 82-54.

"We learned a good lesson today," Charlotte coach Alan Major said. "You have to give George Washington credit they did a great job from the opening tip. They sped us up and we did not handle it. We have to go back home and regroup and get ready for next Saturday's game with Massachusetts."

DeMario Mayfield recorded his 14th  double-figure scoring game of the season with a team-high 17 points. Chris Braswell, who recorded his 11th double-figure scoring game of the season, and Pierria Henry, who tallied his ninth double-figure scoring game, scored 11 points apiece.

Willie Clayton and Mayfield each grabbed eight rebounds to lead the 49ers.

Mayfield scored the game's first basket. Then, George Washington scored the next seven points.

George Washington took their largest lead of the first half when Patricio Garino knocked down a three at the 10:55 mark of the first half giving George Washington a 20-7 lead.

Charlotte outscored George Washington 20-15 over the final ten minutes of the first half cutting George Washington halftime lead to 35-27 when E. Victor Nickerson knocked down a three with eight seconds on the clock.

In the second half, Charlotte would get as close as eight points on several occasions. At the 14:19 mark, Charlotte trailed 43-35. However, that would be as close as the 49ers would get as George Washington outscored the 49ers 18-10 over the next six minutes taking a 61-45 lead.

The 49ers return to action when they play Massachusetts in Charlotte's homecoming game in Halton Arena, Saturday, February 2 at 2 pm.
