CHARLOTTE, N.C. -
The Charlotte 49ers women's
soccer returns to the road for another pair of matches this weekend, as it
heads to Bronx, N.Y., for a Friday meeting with Fordham and then Philadelphia
for a Sunday contest against fellow league unbeaten La Salle.
"Again, two tremendous opponents waiting for us," head coach John Cullen
"Anytime you go on the road, you have to deal with all the elements. I think
each game presents a different challenge. Both schools are in the top half of
the A-10. We expect two highly competitive games, which you always expect this
time of year. Once we get into conference season, all these games are very
close. Hopefully we can go and get two more positive results this weekend."
Charlotte is seventh in this week's NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Poll and enters the
weekend as one of just two unbeatens across the conference, joining La Salle.
The 49ers are 9-3-1 overall with a current five-game winning streak and 3-0
against Atlantic 10 competition following Saturday's 4-2 victory at George
The five-game run is the program's longest since 2010.
Sophomore Amanda Jones
and senior Carrie Dail
pace the squad with six and five
goals, respectively. The tandem has combined for four of the team's
game-winning goals, including a high of three from Dail.
Fordham brings a 6-8 overall and 2-2 league ledger into the match. The Rams
started A-10 play with a pair of wins before dropping their contests last
weekend to VCU and Richmond on the road. The two setbacks snapped a four-game
Kristina Maksuti tops coach Ness Selmani's team with four goals and 10 points.
La Salle, currently ranked second in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Poll and receiving
votes in the national poll, carries a 10-3 overall and 4-0 league record. The
Explorers will start their weekend by playing host to George Washington Friday
before welcoming the Niners to town.
The high-scoring offense is led by Kelsey Haycook with her seven goals and 18
points. She is one of three players, along with Renee Washington and Anna
Dolhansky, with double-digit points thus far this season for head coach Paul
