Charlotte volleyball never trailed in the opening set and cruised to a 3-0 sweep (25-13, 25-21, 25-16) of Delaware State to open the Runnin' Bulldog Classic, hosted by Gardner-Webb University. Junior Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) led the 49ers with 15 kills and a .591 attack percentage as Charlotte hit a season-best .367 attack percentage overall. The 49ers are 5-2, with sweeps in all five wins this season, after just three sweeps in 2011. The Hornets slip to 1-6 on the year.

Charlotte also dropped a season-best nine aces on the Hornets, including a career-high and team season-best four for freshman Michelle Hovey (Raleigh, N.C. / Lighthouse), who added six digs for her afternoon.

The 49ers started out to a 3-0 lead and cruised to a 10-4 start in the opening frame, quickly building the lead to 22-9 before capturing the 12-point result.

The second set was the most competitive of the match, with seven ties and four lead changes. The 49ers came out again to a 3-0 start, surging to a 7-1 lead before the Hornets fired off a 12-5 run to take their first lead of the day at 13-12. The set was tied at scores from 13-all to 17-all before Charlotte was able to string together an 8-4 run to end the set.

Delaware State stayed with Charlotte in the early going of the third set until Charlotte mounted an 8-2 run and pulled away for good.

Charlotte limited the Hornets to a .133 attack percentage. Charlotte senior Bianca Rouse (Columbia, S.C. / Keenan HS) was the only other player in the match to reach double figures in kills, at 13. She and senior libero Jenna Litoborski (Lemont, Ill.) each had eight digs to lead the 49ers. Senior setter Lily Vera (Anderson, S.C. / Stone Bridge HS) led all players with 44 assists. Her 11.91 assists-per-set mark to this point of the season would be the fifth-best in a single season in school history.

The 49ers will take on UM-Kansas City on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and host Gardner-Webb at 5 p.m. to finish the weekend.
