Sam Houston State senior golfer Garrett Driver has been named the Southland Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for April, the league office announced Wednesday.

Driver was the individual medalist at the Louisiana-Monroe Wallace Jones Invitational April 9-10 and was the runnerup at the Texas State Jim West Intercollegiate April 1-3.

The senior from Humble, Texas (Humble H.S.), posted scores of 70, 72 and 75 at the Wallace Jones Invitational to finish with a 1-over par 217 to earn the title.

It helped the Bearkats to a third-place finish at the Southern Pines Country Club in Calhoun, La.

In Driver's second-place effort in the Jim West Intercollegiate at the Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas, he finished with a 9-under par 63 in the final round, which is the lowest 18-hole score in Sam Houston State history.

It also was the lowest round by a Southland Conference golfer this season. Driver turned in scores of 72 and 73 to finished with a 54-hole total of 208 in leading the Bearkats to the team win. In six rounds in April, he has averaged 70.83 strokes.

Driver and his Bearkat teammates will compete in the Southland Conference men's golf tournament next week in McKinney.
