After a three-hour lightning delay, Sam Houston State and Texas-Arlington tried one more time to play baseball on Friday night. But just 20 minutes after restarting, another strike of lightning forced the suspension of the game with SHSU leading 2-0 in the bottom of the 8th.

The game will resume at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Starting pitcher Caleb Smith was strong, allowing just two hits through the first six innings prior to the delay. He came back after the three-hour delay and pitched one more shutout inning before the game was stopped for good.

The Kats got the scoring going in the top of the seventh. Kevin Miller hit a popup behind second that fell and he hustled to second for a double. He then scored one batter later on a triple by Ryan O’Hearn. Shea Pierce then brought home O’Hearn on a single to put the Kats up 2-0.
