DES MOINES, Iowa – The DePaul Blue Demons handed the South Dakota State volleyball team its fifth loss to start the season on Saturday at the Drake Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa, with a three-set win over the Jackrabbits by the set scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-16.

The win keeps DePaul perfect on the season at 5-0, while the Jacks finished the match with the opposite 0-5 mark.

"We played a very scrappy DePaul team today that applied more pressure on us than we did to them," head coach Phil McDaniel said. "Our ability to get kills must be sharper as we move forward."

Mikala Hora led all players in the match with 11 kills, adding three digs and a block assists. Tiara Gibson added six kills, while Kacey Herrmann finished with two kills to go with her team-high 12 digs.

Abbie Fleener and Callie Huebener led a well-balanced DePaul attack with 10 kills each. Vesela Zapryanova added eight and Natalie Rizzo seven kills in the win for the Blue Demons, who hit .321 as a team (43-9-106), while the Jackrabbits finished with a .120 hitting percentage (32-19-108).

The Jackrabbits look to snap the season-opening skid on Saturday night against tournament host Drake at 7 p.m.
