Reichow wins in photo finish

FARGO, N.D. – The South Dakota State men’s cross country team picked up where they left off last year. The Jackrabbits had four finishers in the top-10 at the Bison Open. As a team the Jackrabbits scored 34 points to finish in first place.

The Bison Open men’s race was originally planned for an 8k, but due to extreme heat it was shortened to a 5k.

The race came down to a photo finish with Joel Reichow taking the win. He held off South Dakota’s Musa Mubarik by .03 seconds. Reichow won the race with a time of 15:46.38. Mubarik ran a time of 15:46.41.

Brendan Sage was one of two freshman Jackrabbits to finish in the top-10. Sage finished in sixth with his time of 16:02.57. Trevor Capra was the other freshman to finish in the top-10. Capra ran a time of 16:09.32.

Drew Kraft finished in eighth with his overall time of 16:06.77.

Dylan Slaba took 15th overall with his final time of 16:20.92. Andrew Thies rounded out the top-20 for SDSU as he finished in 20th with his time of 16:33.51.

Kipp Kinsley and Duane Jongeling finished back-to-back. Kinsley ran a time of 16:35.53 to finish 22nd and Jongeling took 23rd with his time of 16:36.07.

Christian Karels posted a time of 16:41.92 to take 26th and Wilson Hacker who competed in his first race for the Jackrabbits finished in 27th with his time of 16:43.14.

The Jackrabbits will be back in action again next weekend at the OZ Memorial. The OZ Memorial is hosted by the University of Minnesota in Falcon Heights, Minn. The race is slated to take place on Friday, Sept. 6th at 5 p.m.
