Athletics plans to beat the heat
A prolonged late-summer heat wave has prompted the South Dakota State University Athletic Department to provide additional resources for fans attending Saturday’s season-opening football game to stay cool.
In conjunction with the Brookings Fire Department, Swiftel Center and SDSU Facilities and Services, six water stations and four misting locations will be placed throughout the tailgate areas north and south of Coughlin-Alumni Stadium. Concessionaire Aramark will set up additional water kiosks throughout the stadium, starting when gates open at 4:30 p.m.
Tailgating in the Bowes Backyard begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, with a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex scheduled for 3 p.m. east of the Dykhouse Student-Athlete Center. Kickoff for the season opener versus Butler (Ind.) is set for 6 p.m., with a fireworks show to follow immediately after the game.
