The South Dakota State women’s soccer team is slated to start their 2013 season this weekend at home. The Jackrabbits will play host to Iowa State (Friday) and Loyola of Chicago (Sunday).

This is the season-opening weekend for all three teams. Loyola will open their season at South Dakota on Friday night.

THE RECORDS (From 2012)

Iowa State 10-10

Loyola 8-9-3

South Dakota State 6-9-2

The Jackrabbits will look to continue their momentum from their 10-0 exhibition win over the University of Winnipeg. Stacy Guijarro and Alexa Trakalo both recorded hat-tricks in the contest.

The Jacks are returning nine starters from last year’s team that finished 6-9-2. Dani Patterson and Diana Potterveld who both made The Summit League All-Newcomer Team will be back on the pitch for SDSU. SDSU was selected to finish fifth overall in the preseason poll.

This will be the seventh time the Jackrabbits and Cyclones have met. Iowa State owns the all-time series 3-2-1. The Cyclones beat the Jackrabbits last year by a score of 2-1.

Iowa State is coming off a year where they finished 10-10 overall, which was their first 10-win season since 2005.

Jennifer Dominguez made the All-Big 12 second team and she was tied for the conference lead in goals with 14.

Maddie Jobe is two shutouts away from tying the school-record of 16.

Iowa State lost their exhibition match against Illinois State 4-3.

This is the first time that South Dakota State and Loyola have met on the soccer field. Loyola recently left the Horizon League, where they finished sixth, to join the Missouri Valley Conference. The Ramblers were selected to finish seventh in their preseason poll.

They recently defeated Valparaiso 1-0 in their lone exhibition match.

Moriah Schwarz is the Ramblers’ leading scorer from last year; She led the team in goals (three) and points (eight).

The Jackrabbits will travel to San Antonio, Texas to compete in the University of Texas, San Antonio Tournament. SDSU will compete against Lamar (Friday, Aug. 30, 4 p.m.) and Sam Houston State (Sunday, Sept. 1, 10:30 a.m.).

The Jackrabbits have a combined record of 41-34-9 against their 2013 competition.

Potterveld’s older sister Susie is a midfielder on Iowa State’s soccer team. This will be the second time that they have competed against each other at the collegiate level.
