ELMHURST, Ill. -- The South Dakota State men’s cross county team was picked to defend their 2012 conference championship by The Summit League in their annual preseason poll.

The Jackrabbits have won three of the past four conference titles. They received 25 votes overall along with five first place votes.

SDSU has three all-league performers set to compete this year. Trent Lusignan and Joel Reichow made the all-league team last year and Anthony Bongard was an all-league runner in 2010.

Lusignan finished third overall at last year’s meet, while Reichow placed 10th. Lusignan was The Summit League Newcomer of the Year in 2011 when he finished ninth overall.

Bongard did not compete in 2011 due to military deployment and he redshirted in 2012. He finished fourth overall at the 2010 conference championship meet.

The Jackrabbits will compete in their first meet of season on Aug. 30. They will travel to Fargo, N.D. to run in the NDSU Triangular.
