Wrestling garners social media award
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), in coordination with Elite Level Sport Marketing (ELSM), announced South Dakota State Wrestling as the Top Newcomer in the Best of Brand awards. Head coach Chris Bono was present to accept the award at the NWCA Convention.
“I want to thank my staff for all their input and hard work,” Bono said. “I especially want to thank Tyler Merriam (Director of Broadcast Services), who put it all together for us. I’d also like to thank ELS Marketing, Dr. Cooper (CEO of ELSM) and the NWCA for the award. This is truly a team award.”
The Best of Brand awards program is an initiative designed to honor wrestling programs for their investment in marketing and the Top Newcomer Award is specifically designed to recognize the program that made the biggest entrance into the social media scene the previous year.
Highlighting SDSU Wrestling’s social media efforts is Bono’s weekly YouTube video, “Jacked Up Mondays.” In this segment, Bono gives a recap of the Jacks’ previous week and looks forward to the week ahead, while also providing fans with unique, behind-the-scenes footage of the team.
With 700 followers on Twitter and over 3,200 likes on Facebook, SDSU led all of the nominated programs for the award in popularity. SDSU was joined by Appalachian State, John Hopkins, North Carolina, Roger Williams University and Wabash as finalists for the award.
To become a finalist, programs are evaluated throughout the year on how effective the they combine content, visual appeal and interactivity into their chose social media platforms.
