FARGO, N.D. – South Dakota State signee Matt Seabold used a 5-3 effort at the 2013 USAW Junior Greco Nationals to earn eighth place and All-American honors in the 195-lb weight class.

Seabold, now a three-time Junior Greco All-American, started 5-0 before dropping his last three matches, including an injury default that kept him from competing in the seventh-place match. Of his five wins in pool competition, Seabold recorded three tech falls and a pin.

The Burlington, Iowa, native opened the tournament with a 7-0 tech fall over Nick Weber (New York), before pinning Tanner Blank (California) just over a minute into the first period. Seabold went on to record back-to-back tech falls against Tyler Stevenson (Utah) and Isaiah Margheim (Ohio) 8-0 and 11-4, respectively. Seabold then defeated Jared Haught (West Virginia) 9-3 to record his final victory of the day.

Seabold’s defeats came at the hands of Roland Zilberman (New York), Jeremy Sweany (California) and Matt Stopka (Illinois).

SDSU will have three more incoming recruits competing on Thursday and Friday as future Jackrabbits Kyle Leet, Alex Macki and Jake Turk compete in the 2013 USAW Junior Freestyle Nationals. To follow along with the action, CLICK HERE.
