The South Dakota State men’s track and field team is excited to announce the signing of thrower Greg Ganter. Ganter is from Cuba City, Wis., and competed in the discus and shot put events throughout his high school career.

Ganter was not only a decorated track athlete, but he also played football and basketball as well. During his senior year of football he was named to the WFCA All-State team. He played defensive end recording 13 sacks and 20 tackles for loss in eight games and was named to the All-Region, All-Area and All-Conference teams. On the other side of the ball, he started as a guard and center and he earned All-Conference honors. He played guard in the WFCA All-Star Game this past July. He could also punt too, as he was ranked as the 34th best punter in the nation.

He brought home many awards during his senior year of track and field. He set the school record in both the shot put (59’ 6.00”) and the discus throw (173’ 0.00”). His mark of 59’ 6.00” in the shot put ranks fourth best all-time in WIAA State Division III and his discus throw of 173’ 0.00” ranks 11th best all-time.

In both the shot put and discus competitions his senior year he was the state champion, made the WISTCA All-State team, sectional champion, regional champion, conference MVP, conference champion and all-season champion.

Throws Coach Tyg Long is very excited for him to join the Jackrabbits, he noted, “we can not wait for him to start throwing for SDSU. He is a outstanding young talent and is a great addition to the Jackrabbits in multiple areas.”

“He is a solid all-around athlete and has a lot of potential,” said Long. “He will be able to focus on throwing year round, which will help him make the jump into the collegiate competitions.”
