Jacks in position for the finals
MUNCIE, Ind. – Luke Leischner and the rest of the Jackrabbits are getting ready for the final day of The Summit League Outdoor Championships on Saturday. Leischner was one of three SDSU runners to qualify for the 400-meter dash final.
The first event on the day for the decathlon was the 110-meter hurdles; Mercil posted a personal best when he clocked in at 17.19. Also in the event, Greenway finished in 20.32. In the discus throw, Greenway placed second with a throw of 118’ 3.00”, while Mercil took seventh with a mark of 82’ 10.00”.
In the javelin throw, Greenway took fourth with his distance of 146' 11.00" and Mercil finished sixth with his toss of 122' 9.00".
Mercil ended up with a height of 14’ 3.25” in the pole vault and Greenway reached a height of 10’ 00.00”. The final event of the decathlon was the 1500-meter run, Mercil finished with a time of 5:03.04, while Greenway ran a time of 5:08.92. Greenway’s time in the 1500-meter run is a new personal best for him.
Mercil also ran the 110-meter hurdles again later in the day and he finished in 17.38.
Jeremiah Ary placed third in the long jump with his new personal best of 23’ 7.50”.
Dom Wright advanced in the 200-meter dash with his time of 21.80; he also clocked in at 10.98 during the 100-meter dash.
With a height of 6’ 5.50”, Connor Berg placed third in the high jump.
Three freshmen for SDSU qualified for the finals of the 800-meter run on Saturday. Phillip LaVallee is in third (1:55.72), Dylan Slaba is in ninth (1:56.05) and in 11th is Grant VanKeulen (1:57.08). All three runners set personal bests in the event.
Andrew Thies and Austin Hamm went back-to-back in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Thies placed fifth (9:38.44) and Hamm took sixth (9:41.62). Hamm knocked off 16 seconds of his previous personal best (9:57.63).
The Jackrabbits are currently in third place with 47 total points.
The final day of competition will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the pole vault and the 4x100-meter relay will start the running events at 12:25 p.m.
