Assmus wins the discus

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The SDSU track and field teams sent a select few athletes to compete at day two of Howard Wood Dakota Relays. The success yesterday in the women’s hammer throw carried over to today in the women’s discus throw for the Jackrabbits.

Shelby Assmus won the discus throw with a distance of 140’ 5.00”. Amy Paulzine and Becca Fischer finished third and fourth respectively. Paulzine recorded a mark of 134’ 4.00” and Fischer had a toss of 132’ 11.00”.

Laura Lawton won the 1500-meter run with her time of 4:43.48. Also in the event, Brooke Peterson finished in 4:48.74 to place fifth.

Phillip LaVallee placed fourth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:57.38.

Traxton Priebe set a personal best of 56.07 to win the 400-meter hurdles.

Lori Foltz placed second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.71).

Next up for the Jackrabbits is the conference tournament on May 9-11. The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships will held on the campus of Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.
