SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Wet field conditions again kept the South Dakota State softball team off its home field for a weekend series with Fort Wayne, which handed the Jackrabbits a pair of losses on Saturday at Sherman Park by the scores of 3-0 and 4-3.

The losses drop the Jackrabbits to 14-29 on the season overall and to 4-16 in The Summit League, while the Mastodons improve to 26-12 overall and to 9-3 in the league.

IPFW scored single runs in the second, fifth and seventh innings, and relied on the arm of Miranda Kramer, who surrendered three hits in the complete game win, with nine strikeouts and two walks. Kori Seidlitz took the loss for the Jackrabbits in the circle. She gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits with three walks and 11 strikeouts.

The Jackrabbits struck first in the nightcap with a bases loaded triple from Krista Honken to put the Jacks up 3-0 after three complete innings.

The lead did not last though, as the Mastodons plated four runs, all with two outs, on five hits in the top of the fourth to take a lead that they would not relinquish.

Despite giving up the three runs to SDSU, Megan Flenniken got the decision for IPFW in the circle. She gave up three hits over four innings with three strikeouts and two walks before giving way to Kramer, who earned her first save of the season pitching the final three innings.

Seitlitz again took the loss for SDSU after pitching the first three and two-thirds innings before giving way to Alex Landon, who surrendered just one hit over the final three and a third innings. Both Jackrabbit pitchers recorded five strikeouts in the game.

Marlee Petersen led the Jacks with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, including a triple of her own. Honken and Vanessa Kellems went 1-for-3 at the plate, while Kelly Kleppin finished the game 1-for-2.

SDSU looks to avoid the series sweep on Sunday, when the same two teams meet at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls for the series finale at noon.
