Softball suffers sweep at NDSU
FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State completed a three-game series sweep of South Dakota on Wednesday on Gate City Bank Field in the Fargodome with a 2-1 win.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 14-27 on the season overall and to 4-14 in the Summit League, while the host Bison improve to 25-13 overall and remain undefeated in league play with a 12-0 record.
Sammy Bingham smacked her team-leading sixth homerun of the season for the Jacks lone run of the game. Her leadoff bomb in the top of the sixth inning tied the game at 1-1, but NDSU left fielder Maritza Lopez Portil put the Bison back on top with a leadoff shot in the bottom of the sixth.
NDSU starter Whitney Johnson followed up her no-hit bid in Tuesday’s series opener with another complete game outing, giving up one run on three hits with 13 strikeouts and a pair of walks.
Kori Seidlitz took the loss for the Jackrabbits after giving up two runs on five hits, with four strikeouts and a walk over five innings. Alex Landon finished the game with one perfect inning in the circle.
The Jackrabbits look snap their six game skid this weekend in a three game series against Fort Wayne at an, as of yet, undetermined location due to continued poor field conditions in Brookings.
