Jacks finish 7th in Missouri
COLUMBIA, MO. -- The bogeys outnumbered the birdies in the final round for the Jackrabbit men’s golf team on Tuesday as South Dakota State finished in 7th place at the Columbia Orthopedic Group Mizzou Intercollegiate.
The Jacks posted rounds of 292 and 298 in the first two rounds on Monday but shot a 311 on Tuesday to finish at 901 as a team on the 7,221-yard, par-72 course, The Club at Old Hawthorne.
Miles Knutsen was the top SDSU golfer, finishing tied for 18th place. The freshman scored rounds of 72, 73 and 76 (222) and carded eight birdies and an eagle at the tournament.
Knutsen has finished in the top-25 in all four tournaments so far this spring.
Junior Hudson Carpenter tied for 26th place with a two-day total of 223, hitting seven birdies and one eagle on his way to rounds of 72, 73 and 78.
Lukas Davison opened play Monday with two rounds of 74 and finished with a 77 in the final round on Tuesday. The junior tied for 34th place with a three-round total of 225, which included seven birdies.
Dillon Schultz posted rounds of 75, 76 and 80 (231) to finish in 44th place. The sophomore notched eight birdies over the two day event.
Senior Greg Fehrman tied for 50th place with rounds of 77, 77 and 81 to finish with a three-round score of 235.
Competing as an individual, freshman AC Sitter shot rounds of 82, 84 and 78 to finish tied for 62nd place with a final score of 244.
Host school Missouri finished 12-under par as a team and won the tournament by 19 strokes. The Tigers have won the tourney the past three years.
On the individual leader board, Austin Peay State’s Dustin Korte was the tournament champion, shooting rounds of 71, 68 and 72 (211) to finish five-under par.
The Jackrabbits’ next time out on the links will be at the Summit League Championship on April 22-24. This year’s conference tourney is hosted by SDSU and will be held at the 6,953-yard, par-72 Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club in Keller, Texas.
