Women's golf finishes 13th in Texas

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- The South Dakota State women’s golf team wrapped up play at the Challenge at Onion Creek on Tuesday, finishing in 13th place.

The Jacks posted rounds of 320, 322 and 322 for a two-day total of 964 at the 5,821-yard, par-70 Onion Creek Club.

Morgan Fitts was the top golfer for the Jacks, carding rounds of 74, 77 and 75 (226) to finish tied for 32nd place. The senior had six birdies during the tournament.

Freshman Sydney MacDonald placed 59th after rounds of 83, 80 and 77 (240), moving up two spots after entering the day tied for 61st.

Sophomore Amber Houser had a a three-round total of 244 to finish in 63rd place with rounds of  79, 82 and 83.

Freshman Brianna Janu shot rounds of 84, 83 and 87 (254) to finish in 67th place and sophomore Myranda Dunmire posted 87 in all three rounds (261) to finish in 68th place.

Gonzaga held off Texas State to take the team title by three strokes with scores of 279, 288 and 295 (862). 

Texas State’s Krista Puisite and Gonzaga’s Han Wu were co-champions of the tourney with three-round totals of 210. Puisite had rounds of 68, 70 and 72 while Wu had rounds of 71, 68 and 71.

The Jacks will be back on the links at the Creighton Classic in Omaha, Neb., on April 15-16.
