Two Jackrabbits ride at Pin Oak
KATY, TEXAS – The third annual Collegiate Invitational at the Pin Oak Charity Horseshow kicked off on Sunday after a short delay around 12 p.m., for South Dakota State senior Megan Schiffman, and freshman Marielle Golden.
In the first-ever equitation on the flat phase, Schiffman rode as a demo rider for the championship round competitors. Riding in front of two judges, Schiffman scored an 81 and 82, respectively for a combined score of 163.
For the first round of over fences competition, Golden rode for a score of 55, unfortunately knocking two rails off of the jumps during her course. This eliminated her from the second round, as her competitor knocked only one rail and received a score of 65.
“Schiffman had an awesome ride on her draw, It was great practice for her to get on a really nice horse ,” SDSU assistant coach Kamerra Brown said. “Golden had a tough horse, but rode very strong. This was a good opportunity for both riders and I couldn’t be more proud.”
For the equitation on the flat phase, the SMU rider won with an overall score of 143.5 over Fresno State rider’s 132. In the equitation over fences, and LSU rider won with a score of 85 over Rice University’s rider with a score of 75.
