Potts finishes second as Jacks take fifth

VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota State women’s track and field team finished fifth at The Summit League Indoor Championships today. Tera Potts had a solid day as she finished second in the mile and 11th in the 5000-meter run. Potts ran 5:02.89 in the mile and 17:54.52 in the 5000-meter run.

Cheyanne Bowers took sixth in the 5000-meter run with her time of 17:41.84. She beat her personal best by over 20 seconds in the event.

Also in the event Erin Hargens placed 10th with her time of 17:53.83.

Samantha Anderson and Laura Lawton competed in the mile and they posted times of 5:15.41 and 5:15.45 respectively.  

In the 800-meter run Krista Creager ran a time of 2:21.73 to finish fifth overall.

Megan Bren finished eighth in the 400-meter dash with her time of 59.22.

Kali Olson posted a height of 5’ 6.00” in the high jump; she finished sixth in the event.

In the pole vault, Amy Leiferman finished eighth with her height of 11’ 05.00”.

Jenna Stephens posted a distance of 35’ 06.75" in the long jump.

Carly Carper claimed fifth in the 60-meter dash with her time of 7.75. Ashley Odegaard took seventh and Gina Fritz finished eighth. Odegaard and Fritz had times of 7.78 and 7.84 respectively.

Fritz also finished fourth overall in the 200-meter dash with her time of 25.36.

In the women’s shot put McKenzie Johnson finished fourth, while Shelby Assmus took sixth. Johnson had a mark of 45’ 4.50” and Assmus threw for a distance of 44’ 6.75”.

The 4x4000-meter relay team of Fritz, Lori Foltz, Odegaard and Bren placed fourth with their time of 3:56.80.

Today wraps up the indoor season for SDSU, but they will be back in action on March 23th and 24th at the Missouri Relays in Columbia, Mo.
