Jacks in third after day one

VERMILLION, S.D. – The men’s track and field team is currently in third place after day one of The Summit League Indoor Championships. The Jackrabbits found great success in the men’s 3000-meter run as they placed three runners in the top four.

Trent Lusignan finished the 3000-meter run in second place with a time of 8:26.28, Michael Krsnak finished third with a time of 8:29.89 and Anthony Bongard placed fourth with his time of 8:30.61.  

LeAndre Kennedy qualified for the 60-meter dash finals with his time of 6.94. His time today is a new personal best and ties the second best time in SDSU history.  

In the men’s heptathlon, Bennett Mercil is in eighth place after four events with 2497 points.

Grant VanKeulen and Phillip LaVallee both qualify for the men’s 800-meter run final tomorrow. VanKeulen and LaVallee ran times of 1:59.88 and 1:58.53 respectively.

Levi Winkels ran a time of 50.99 to qualify eighth for 400-meter dash finals.

Jeremiah Ary took sixth in the long jump with a distance of 22’ 2.50”.

Cullen Mack posted a new personal best in the weight throw with his mark of 52’ 6.50”.

In the pole vault, Ryan Schaefer finished seventh with a height of 14’ 3.50”.

The distance medley relay team of LaVallee, Justin Carson, Dylan Slaba and Joel Reichow finished third with a time of 10:23.04.

The Jackrabbits will be back in action again tomorrow as they wrap-up day two of The Summit League Indoor Championships. The events will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the men’s 60-meter hurdles (heptathlon).
