Softball falls to Pittsburgh at Hilltopper Classic
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - After rain and wet field conditions forced changes at the Hilltopper Classic, the South Dakota State softball team opened the event on Friday with a 7-3 loss to Pittsburgh.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 4-7 on the season, while the Panthers improve to 2-4.
Trailing 1-0 entering the fifth inning, the Jackrabbits got an RBI double from Devan Larsen that scored Vanessa Kellems, running for Kori Seidlitz, and an RBI single from Emily Weber that scored Larsen to put the Jacks in front 2-1 after four and a half innings.
Unfortunately for the Jackrabbits though, Pitt came back with six runs on seven hits and two SDSU errors in the bottom of the frame to take a 7-2 lead.
The Jackrabbits got one back in the sixth with a two out RBI double from Seidlitz that scored Sammy Bingham, but would get no closer.
If the weather and the schedule holds, the Jackrabbits return to action on Saturday against Dayton at 10:30 a.m., and then play Valparasio at 3:30 p.m.
