Two school record relays fall on day one
ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The South Dakota State University men's and women swimming teams each broke one school relay record on day one of the Summit League Championships Wednesday evening.
The women's 200 medley relay team of Lisa Newberger, Kayce Smith, Nicole Grimit and Shauna Foor started the championships by finishing sixth with a school record time of 1:46.01. The previous relay record of 1:46.30 was set on day three at last year's championships in a time trial.
The men's 800 freestyle relay team of Kyle Ochsner, Garth Wadsworth, Wil Hogue and Blake Yeager placed second with a school record time of 6:47.01. The previous record of 6:50.88 was set by the team at last year's championships.
The men's 200 medley relay of Phil Albu, Shea Patrick, Ochsner and Ben Bolinske finished fourth with a time of 1:33.83. The current relay record is 1:32.63, which was set at last year's championships.
The women's 800 freestyle relay team of Devonne Dalin, Selina Gilbertson, Grimit and Andrea Budahl finished fourth with a time of 7:39.68. The curreny relay record is 7:34.66, which was set as last year's championships.
The men are tied for second with 64 points. The women are in fifth with 56 points. The championships continue Thursday morning with prelims.
