HAMMOND, La. - The South Dakota State softball team split on Saturday for a second straight day at the Jimmy John's Lion Classic II, opening the day with a 13-2 win over UMBC in the first game of the day, before falling to the host Southeastern Louisiana Lions by a 7-2 score in the second game.

Kori Seidlitz pitched all five innings and went 2-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBI and a homerun to lead the Jackrabbits in the win over UMBC in the opener. Elyse Eitel also hit a homerun, the first of her career, as the Jacks pounded out 12 hits in the win.

Seidlitz scattered six hits, struck out six and walked two in picking up her first win of the season, but got plenty of help on offense, as her and two other Jackrabbits recorded multiple hits. Emily Weber went 2-for-4 with a run and 3 RBI, while Lauren Chirnside posted a perfect 3-for-3 game at the plate with a run scored and 2 RBI.

Eitel knocked in three runs with her first-career homer, the first three of six runs posted by the Jacks in the sixth inning to seal the win.

SDSU fell into a 2-0 hole in the second game of the day against the host Lions, but tied things up in the top of the third inning on a Sammy Bingham double that scored Eitel and Alex Landon.

The Lions got one back in the bottom of the third, and then put the game away with four runs on three hits and one SDSU error in the sixth inning.

Jennifer Sutton took the loss in the circle, giving up three runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks over four and a third innings before giving way to Landon for the final inning and two-thirds.

The Jacks close the tournament on Sunday with a single game against Texas Southern at 10 a.m., and then head to Bowling Green, Ky., next weekend for five games at the Holiday Inn Hilltopper Classic, hosted by Western Kentucky.
