The South Dakota State women’s soccer team defeated the University of Winnipeg 10-0 in an exhibition contest on Friday night. Stacy Guijarro and Alexa Trakalo both recorded hat tricks in the game.

The format of the game consisted of one 45-minute period and two 25-minute periods.

Elisa Stamatakis started for the Jacks in the net and played until the 29:47 mark when Nicole Inskeep replaced her. She played until the end of the first period, when Blaklee McMillen started the second period. Lauren Thormodsgard took over at the start of the third period and closed out the game for the Jackrabbits. As a combined goaltending unit the Jacks allowed zero goals on four shots.

It took just a bit over 14 minutes for the Jackrabbits to get on the board. Alyssa Brazil fired a shot just outside the box into the bottom left corner of the net for the first goal of the game. The Jacks added one more goal late in the first period with Shelby Raper’s first goal of the game. Her goal came with about three minutes left in the period.

The Jackrabbits’ offense opened up in the second period. SDSU notched five goals in the second period including two goals from Guijarro. Mckenzie Wolf assisted Guijarro on both of her second period goals.

Reigning Summit League Freshman of the Year Diana Potterveld found the back of the net with just less than two minutes left in the second period (46:31). Trakalo recorded her first goal of the game just a few minutes later (50:29).

Megan Kingston recorded her lone goal of the game at the 67:52 mark.

SDSU added three more goals in the final period of the game. Trakalo recorded her second goal of the game from her shot at the 100:52 mark. Lauren Kressock assisted Trakalo on the goal.

Within 10 minutes of Trakalo’s second goal, SDSU added two more goals. Guijarro and Trakalo finished off their hat tricks at the 105:05 and 108:51 marks, respectively.

The SDSU offense took 31 total shots and 17 of them were on goal.

On the match against Winnipeg, head coach Lang Wedemeyer noted, “It gave us a real opportunity to get a lot of attacking and work on a few things that we have been practicing on leading up to the game.”

The Jackrabbits will officially begin the 2013 season next Friday night against Iowa State. The game time is set for 6 p.m. at Fishback Soccer Park.
