DURHAM, N.C. –  After playing recently with Canada’s full national team, Duke University women’s soccer sophomore Rebecca Quinn has been named to the Canada Under-20 Women’s World Cup team, which will compete in her hometown of Toronto, Canada in August.

Canada head coach Andrew Olivieri selected 21 players that will try to win a world championship on home soil as Canada hosts the tournament that starts in Toronto August 5 and ends at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal August 24. Edmonton and Moncton will also host games in the competition.

A product of Toronto, Canada, Quinn started the first four matches of her collegiate career at Duke before being saddled with injuries in 2013. After being injured against New Mexico on Sept. 1, Quinn only played in three other matches the rest of her rookie season.  The midfielder collected one assist against Boston College.

Playing in Group A, Canada opens the competition in Toronto August 5 against Ghana with a game against Finland August 8 before wrapping up the group stage in Montreal August 12 against Korea DPR.

This will be the second time Canada is hosting the world’s best women’s teams at the youth level. In 2002, Canada famously advanced all the way to the final when they lost a heartbreaking 0-1 result in a thrilling final to the United States in front of almost 48,000 fans at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.

Throughout the competition, fans will be able to follow live updates on Twitter @CanadaSoccerEN and @CanadaSoccerFR as well as read match previews and reports on canadasoccer.com. The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014 will be broadcast on CBC.
