DURHAM, N.C.—Duke University senior midfielder Sean Davis returns for his final season with the Blue Devils as one of the top 10 midfielders in collegiate soccer according to a coaches survey by Davis and the Blue Devils kick off their season Aug. 29 with the John Rennie Nike Invitational.

“Davis is among the best of the bunch on an underrated Duke side that is also bringing in a highly ranked recruiting class this fall,” according to TopDrawerSoccer. “He is a center midfielder with good technical skill and excellent vision. He finished 2013 with six goals scored, which was tied for top honors on the squad. As a senior this fall, Davis will be expected to guide the young squad through a difficult ACC schedule.”

A 2013 All-ACC second team selection, Davis has started 47 of the 49 games he has played over the past three seasons. He ranked second on the team in scoring last season with six goals and three assists and has 21 points overall for his career (7g, 7a).

In addition to Davis, incoming freshman Jeremy Ebobisse-Ebolo earned special mention from college coaches with expectations his on the future Blue Devil. Ebobisse-Ebolo has headlined the Bethesda-Olney Academy squad to the top spot in the Eastern Conference with a 23-2 record. In his 21 outings, the striker has an impressive 29 goals. Bethesda-Olney will play Georgia United in the opening round of the Academy Playoffs June 23.

Duke opens the 2014 campaign with Loyola Marymount Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. The Blue Devils host rival North Carolina in the ACC home opener Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
