DURHAM, N.C. – A week after being inducted into Duke University’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, Blue Devil goalkeeper Lauren Blazing has received another academic honor, earning a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District III Women’s At-Large Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.

The redshirt sophomore had a breakout season in goal during the fall, earning All-America third team, All-South Region first team, All-ACC second team and All-ACC Tournament Team distinction while guiding Duke to a 17-7 ledger and an appearance in the NCAA championship game. Blazing concluded the 2013 season ranked fifth nationally and first in the ACC in save percentage (.792) and was second in the conference in saves per game (5.88). She posted a career-high 22 saves in a 3-2 overtime shootout victory over previously unbeaten and top-ranked North Carolina Sept. 27, 2013.

A native of Durham, N.C., Blazing is a cultural anthropology and political science major at Duke and was named a Scholar of Distinction by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association following the 2013 campaign. She was also selected to the Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad and the All-ACC Academic Team.

With her selection to the Academic All-District Team, Blazing is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
