DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University senior Chelsea Gray underwent successful right knee surgery on Friday, January 17 performed by team physician Dr. Alison Toth.  The surgery addressed her fractured kneecap injury that occurred on Jan. 12, 2014 versus Boston College.

It marks the second straight year the two-time All-America has seen her season come to an end much earlier than expected.

So far in 2013-14, Gray was averaging 10.8 points, 7.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.9 steals through 17 games.  Her 7.2 assists ranked sixth nationally and she needed only 35 more dishes to become Duke’s all-time assist leader.  Gray was considered to be one of the top point guards in the nation.

As a junior, Gray played in 25 contests before suffering a dislocated kneecap against Wake Forest on Feb. 17, 2013.  She was averaged 12.6 points, 5.4 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 3.6 steals on the season, but still was named Co-ACC Player of the Year, Associated Press and WBCA Coaches All-America.

Duke (17-1, 4-0 ACC) is coming off an impressive 90-55 victory on Thursday against Virginia and will next travel to Virginia Tech on Sunday, Jan. 19 for a 12:00 p.m., tip in Blacksburg, Va.  The game will be aired live on RSN-TV.
