CARY, N.C. – Sophomore Michael Redlicki advanced to the singles semifinals and teamed up with junior Jason Tahir to earn a spot in the doubles quarterfinals Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Carolina Regional.

Ranked 22nd nationally and seeded third in the singles draw, Redlicki went 2-0 on the day to move his season ledger to 9-3. The product of Hawthorn Woods, Ill., dropped the first set against 11th-seeded Ronnie Schneider of North Carolina but came back to take the match in three sets, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Redlicki dispatched No. 15 seed Robbie Mudge of NC State 6-4 in the first set and cruised to a 6-0 win in the second set to set up a semifinal meeting with No. 87 Joran Vliegen of East Carolina on Sunday.

Sophomore Bruno Semenzato, the 13th-seeded player in singles, turned in an impressive three-set victory in the round of 16, rallying from being down a double break in the final set to defeat No. 33 Rafael Aita of UNC Wilmington, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5). The Sao Paulo, Brazil native carried his strong play into the quarterfinals, but ran into a tough opponent in No. 34 Cameron Silverman of Elon, falling by scores of 6-3, 6-4.

Earlier in the morning, 111th-ranked and 12th-seeded Tahir split the first two sets with Silverman but ultimately suffered a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 setback to the Elon player.

Redlicki and Tahir continued their run in the regional doubles tournament Saturday afternoon as the top-seeded and 11th-ranked duo registered an 8-6 win over ninth-seeded Silverman and Brian Kowalski of Elon. The Blue Devil tandem will face North Carolina’s seventh-seeded pair of Brett Clark and Ronnie Schneider Sunday for a spot in the semifinals.

Following a pair of wins in Friday’s first and second rounds, redshirt junior Cale Hammond and sophomore Daniel McCall took to the courts again Saturday, going up against the second-seeded UNC Wilmington duo of Aita and Sam Williams. Hammond and McCall battled the Seahawks to a tiebreaker but came up just short of the upset, falling 8-7 (2).

Action continues at the Cary Tennis Park Sunday, Oct. 20, beginning with the singles semifinal matches at 10 a.m. The quarterfinals and semifinals of doubles are slated to get underway at 12:30 p.m.
