PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Duke rising sophomore Motin Yeung fired a four-under 206 to match Nick Palladino for low score at the 73rd Annual Monroe Invitational Championship at Monroe Country Club. Yeung was the lone player in the 78-player field to post three rounds in the 60s before losing medalist honors to Palladino in a first hole playoff.
Yeung fired rounds of 69-69-68 and finished the event with one eagle, 10 birdies, 35 pars and eight bogeys. The Beijing, China, native played the par 3s and par 4s at the Monroe Country Club.
Southey-Gordon shot 70-71-73 en route to a tie for 11th finish. He played the par 5s at three-under for the tournament and closed with six birdies, 38 pars and 10 bogeys.
Merkulov, a native of Penfield, N.Y., opened the tournament with a two-under 68 before struggling with a 79 in the second round of play. He bounced back to card a 73 in Sunday's final round. Merkulov played the par 3s at three-under for the tournament but was +12 on the par 4s.
