Last Time Out
Leading 3-0 after five innings, the Blue Devils plated eight in the bottom of the sixth and added two more in the eighth en route to a 13-0 victory over Boston College Friday evening.
Duke scored seven or more runs in a single inning for the third time in the past four games with its eight-run sixth against the Eagles. After a strikeout to begin the frame, seven straight Blue Devils reached base before junior Jordan Betts capped off the inning with his fifth home run of the 2013 campaign, this one a two-run shot to left center.
Betts was one of three Blue Devils with multiple hits in the game as the Wilmington, N.C., extended his hit streak to nine games with a 2-for-4 evening at the plate while also adding three RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Andy Perez registered his fourth, three-hit game of the year, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Senior Jeff Kremer, who is also enjoying a nine-game hitting streak, went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Sophomore Trent Swart (3-1) was outstanding against the Eagles, tossing seven scoreless innings. The Duke left-hander allowed just two hits – both singles – and struck out six batters to bring his team-leading strikeout total to 40 on the season. Sophomore Dalton Brown completed the shutout with two scoreless innings in relief.
