DURHAM, N.C. – Duke junior catcher Mike Rosenfeld underwent successful surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his right index finger. The injury, which Rosenfeld originally suffered in a game against Miami Mar. 9, will keep the Blue Devil co-captain out the remainder of the season.

“We are certainly disappointed to lose Mike for the remainder of the season,” said head coach Chris Pollard. “He was in the midst of a tremendous season. We will miss his productivity at the plate and the way he handled our young pitching staff. We will certainly still rely on Mike’s leadership as a co-captain for the 2013 team. We are fortunate at Duke to have access to the very best medical care for our athletes; Mike is poised and ready to make a full recovery for next fall. I appreciate the work of our athletic trainer, Shawn Love, and all our team doctors that have provided excellent care and advice to Mike during this process.”

After leading Duke with a .312 average a season ago, Rosenfeld picked up right where he left off to start the 2013 campaign. In 17 games this season, he hit .344 (21-for-61) with seven doubles, eight RBI and seven runs scored. Rosenfeld posted five multi-hit games, including three, three-hit performances this year.

A career .304 hitter, the Mamaroneck, N.Y., native also led the team with a .423 on-base percentage and ranked third on the Blue Devil roster with a .492 slugging percentage. Behind the plate, Rosenfeld boasted a .991 fielding percentage, committing just one error on the year.
