MIAMI (April 6, 2012) -- The FIU volleyball team has been active in the community this spring, as the Panthers recently took part in the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami Collegiate Challenge.

Eleven members of the volleyball squad participated in the event along with Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development, Liz Augustin. The Panthers assisted with dry wall, landscaping and blocking for cabinets, as FIU Athletics continues to hold a strong presence in the Miami community.

Collegiate Challenge, now in its second decade, is a year-round alternative break program that offers groups of five or more participants, 16 years of age and older, the opportunity to visit one of the 200 Habitat for Humanity affiliates throughout the United States. Groups work in partnership with the local affiliate, the local community and partner families to help eliminate poverty housing in the area.
