MIAMI (May 9, 2012) - FIU golf coach Joe Vogel announced the signing of standout golfers Sophie Godley and Carla Jane to National Letters of Intent, it was announced Tuesday. The pair will join Meghan MacLaren and Jasmine Wade, who inked NLI's with FIU during the fall signing period last November, to comprise the 2011-12 FIU Women's Golf signing class.

"We are super excited to have both Sophie Godley and Carla Jane sign their letters of intent with FIU this spring," Vogel said.  "They are both Cup players that have represented their countries and will bring a lot of experience to our team.  Sophie and Carla are two very hard working and talented players. We look forward to having them here this fall."

Godley, a member of the England Under-18 squad, comes to FIU from Whitwell in Nottinghamshire, U.K., where she most recently attended Worksop College. She is regarded as one of England's young golf standouts, excelling in the U.K. on both the regional and national levels.

Godley's list of accolades includes being an ISGA and scratch champion; finishing runner-up in the 2011 England Girls Close Championship; tying for fifth at the 2011 British Girls Championship; placing 11th and ninth, respectively, in the 2010 and 2011 English Women's Stroke Play; qualifying for the last 16 of the Northern Ladies; along with runner-up the past three years in the Yorkshire Junior Championship.

In addition to her individual accolades, Godley has been selected to compete for both Yorkshire and U.K. national squads in recent years.  She was team captain for the Yorkshire Girls Squad in 2009, for which she competed with from 2005-09. Eventually, she was selected to compete with the Yorkshire County Ladies team from 2009-12. The Yorkshire ladies team was Northern County champions and runners-up in the National finals in 2009.

Nationally, Godley was a member of the England Schools team in 2008 that competed against Scotland; the 2008 and 2009 England Under-16 team vs. Spain; and the England national team that competed in the European Girls tournament.  From 2010-11, Godley would play for the England Under-18 squad and was last selected for the England Ladies national team in 2012 that competed against France.

Carla Jane, from Santiago, Chile, will major in international business along with competing for the FIU women's golf team in 2012-13.  Originally from Barcelona, Spain, Jane was ranked first in Golf Action Junior Women. While playing at the Optimist level in 2011, Jane has represented Golf Action for several events in Colombia and Argentina.

Among Jane's individual accolades was being classified to the Faldo Series Championship in 2012, finishing second in the 2012 Chile Open and placing in the top three in nearly all summer tournaments in which she competed.
