Panthers Finish Third at Sun Belt Conference Championship

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (April 18, 2012) --- The FIU women's golf team shot an overall 292 on the final day of the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship in Muscle Shoals, Ala., to finish this year's tournament 31-over-par, good for third place.

Senior Katie Mundy finished in second place after dropping a one-hole playoff with Denver's Rachel Wattson. Mundy held a two-stroke lead heading into the final day. However, the Hampshire, England, native shot a 2-over-par, 74, on Wednesday to finish the tournament 1-under-par and force the one-hole playoff.  Wattson won the playoff as she birdied the 17th hole.

Sophomore Shelby Coyle finished the event shooting five-over-par for a ninth-place finish. Shooting 12-over-par, junior Tania Tare placed tied for 15th at the end of the tournament. Junior Yolecci Jimenez shot a 15-over-par (tied for 22nd) while senior Monica Miller finished the championships in 44th place, shooting a 28-over-par.

For their play, both Mundy and Coyle earned 2012 All-Sun Belt Conference honors.
