MIAMI (July 23, 2012) - With a cumulative team grade point average of 3.39 in the spring, the FIU swimming & diving team was honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America as a Scholar All-America Team, tying them for the 40th-best GPA among Division I women's S&D teams.

The team raised their GPA and impressive .17 points from 3.22 in the fall of 2011.

"Personally, this is the most important honor my team can earn," FIU Swimming & Diving Head Coach Randy Horner said. "All of the success in the pool becomes more impressive when you see that the ladies are a nationally-ranked team in the classroom as well."

The Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented to teams achieving this standard in the fall semester and in the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).

The College Swimming Coaches Association is the oldest coaches' organization in America.  In addition to Scholar All American Awards, the CSCAA recognizes All American Swimmers and Divers at the national championships every year.
