The Panthers open the season at home against the University of Houston on Friday, Oct. 12, as the meet kicks off Alumni Weekend for the swimming & diving program. On Saturday, Oct. 13, FIU will hold an intra-squad alumni meet at 11:00 a.m. before cheering on the football team against Middle Tennessee in the evening in its homecoming game.
"We look forward to hosting Houston and welcoming back our alumni as part of the homecoming weekend events," Horner said. "Houston will be a solid opponent to open the season."
The Panthers will make the short trip to Ft. Myers to take on Florida Gulf Coast on Friday, Oct. 26, before returning home to face North Florida on Saturday, Nov. 3. They will then hit the road to face Florida Southern in Lakeland, Fla., on Saturday, Nov. 10.
From Thursday, Nov. 29, to Saturday, Dec. 1, FIU will take part in the Mizzou Invitational for the first time in school history, held in Columbia, Mo.
"We plan to raise the bar this year with the addition of the Mizzou Invitational to the schedule," Horner said. "This higher quality mid-season meet will prepare us even more for the Sun Belt Championships and NCAA's."
After final exams, FIU will take part in the Nova Southeastern Invitational from Friday, Dec. 14 through Dec. 17, for the second-straight season before traveling to Key Largo, Fla., to defend its Orange Bowl Classic title on Thursday, Jan. 3.
"Our trip to Key Largo for winter training and the Orange Bowl Classic has become a yearly tradition," Horner said. "We look forward to defending our Orange Bowl title this year after winning the event a year ago."
FIU returns home for the first time in over two months for the first of four-straight home meets starting with the FIU Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 5. On Saturday, Jan. 12, Central Connecticut State ventures out of the cold to visit Miami, Fla., before the Panthers take on FGCU for a second time on Saturday, Jan. 19. The Panthers will honor their seniors during the final home meet of the year on Saturday, Jan. 26, in a tri-meet against Florida Atlantic and Indian River College.
From Feb. 27 to March 2, FIU will compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Rockwall, Texas for the final time before transitioning to Conference USA during the 2013-14 season.
The NCAA Zone Diving Meet will take place on March 14-17 at a site to be determined, while the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships will take place March 21-23 at the IU Natatorium and IUPUI Sports Complex in Indianapolis, Ind.
