MIAMI (June 22, 2012) - FIU Head Coach Richard Pitino announced today that the men's basketball team will take on the Louisville Cardinals in each of the next three seasons, beginning this year with a Dec. 19 meeting at the KFC Yum Center in Louisville, Ky.
"We are extremely excited to be able to announce this series with Louisville," Pitino said. "Getting a chance to play one of the premier teams in the nation will be great for our fans as well as our program, especially in 2014-15, when the Cardinals come down here to Miami. To be able to get a Top 5 team in the country to come into your building is not only a landmark moment in the evolution of our program, but it will open the door for other opportunities. This is big for FIU and we look forward to bringing more quality opponents like this to U.S. Century Bank Arena."
The series, contingent on both coaches being at their respective schools, will continue during the 2013-14 year as FIU will travel to Louisville. The series closes out in 2014-15 with the Cardinals making their first-ever appearance at U.S. Century Bank Arena. Dates for both meetings have yet to be determined.
