MIAMI (July 16, 2012) - FIU men's soccer Head Coach Kenny Arena has announced the addition of Kevin Nylen as his top assistant coach. Nylen spent the past two seasons as an assistant at Boston College.

"We are very fortunate that Kevin has decided to join our program," Arena said. "Kevin is one of the best young coaches and recruiters in the country. Our players will immediately benefit from his experience and knowledge of the game."

Nylen was a first-team All-America selection at Saint Anselm College and the 2002 Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year. Before beginning his coaching career in August of 2009 at Amherst College, Nylen enjoyed a six-year professional playing career.

A 2003 Saint Anselm graduate, Nylen earned the school's Male Athlete of the Year honor, awarded annually to one student-athlete who best exemplifies the Saint Anselm spirit in leadership, scholarship and athletic achievements. Nylen played four seasons for the Hawks (1999-02), serving as team captain in 2002.

Upon graduating, Nylen began his professional career, spending three seasons with the Wilmington Hammerheads of the United Soccer League Second Division (2003-06), before joining the Charleston Battery of the USL First Division for three seasons.

A native of Ipswich, Mass., Nylen holds a United States Soccer Federation "A" coaching license as well as an NSCAA Advanced National diploma.
