FIU Menís Basketball Inks Diamante Lewis
MIAMI (April 30, 2012) - High-scoring, combo guard Diamante "Dee" Lewis from Ocala, Fla., has signed a national letter of intent to play men's basketball at FIU, Head Coach Richard Pitino announced Monday.
"We are extremely excited at the addition of Diamante Lewis to our basketball program," Pitino said. "He is a perfect fit for how we want to play. The sky is the limit for him basketball-wise. Our goal from day one has been to get the best players in the state of Florida to stay home. We feel we have accomplished that with Diamante Lewis. He's a tremendous player and an even better person."
Lewis, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound, guard from Lake Weir High School (Ocala, Fla.) averaged 28.4 points-per-game, 6.1 assists-per-game, 7.2 rebounds-per-game and 2.9 steals-per-game during his senior season with the Hurricanes. He led Marion County in scoring, assists and steals during the 2011-12 season. As a senior, Lewis earned FABC Class 6A all-state honors, while being named the Ocala Star-Banner Player of the Year (second-straight year). During his junior season, Lewis averaged 20.9 points-per-game and 3.3 steals-per-contest to lead Lake Weir to a 23-6 mark and the team's first district title in 36 years.
The spring signing period continues through May 16.
