CARY, N.C. – Sophomores Josh Levine and Bruno Semenzato claimed a pair of singles titles as the Blue Devils wrapped up play at the Duke Fab Four Invitational Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Cary Tennis Park.

Semenzato dispatched Wake Forest’s Romain Bogaerts, the fifth-ranked player in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s preseason poll, by scores of 6-1, 7-6 (5) in the blue draw title match. The win marked Semenzato’s first career singles victory over a top-10 opponent, and gave him two titles for the tournament after he teamed with freshman TJ Pura to win the white doubles draw Saturday.

Levine defeated  Michal Voscek of VCU, 6-4, 6-4, in the black draw final after battling to a pair of three-set victories in Saturday’s quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. The Syosset, N.Y., native also picked up the first singles title of his collegiate career Sunday in an impressive start to the 2013-14 campaign.

“Bruno and Josh both spent a majority of last season outside of our top six, and they worked extremely hard this summer to put themselves in position to have breakthrough performances this weekend,” said head coach Ramsey Smith. “This will give them a lot of confidence going into All-Americans and the rest of the fall.”

The consolation final of the black draw saw freshman TJ Pura fall to No. 47 Sebastien Stiefelmeyer of Louisville in a 6-2, 6-4 decision, while redshirt junior Cale Hammond dropped a 6-2, 6-2 loss to fourth-seeded Albert Wagner of Louisville in the consolation final of the blue draw.

In the title match of the white singles draw, 22nd-ranked sophomore Michael Redlicki was unable to fend off No. 34 Cameron Silverman of Elon, falling by scores of 6-4, 7-6 (4).

“I thought we improved as the tournament progressed and I definitely saw a lot of good things from our team this weekend,” Smith said. “TJ was also impressive in his college debut, and I was happy to see him and Bruno win a doubles title yesterday.”

After falling to VCU’s Michal Voscek, 6-2, 6-1, in the semifinals of the black draw on Saturday, No. 26 senior Fred Saba returned to action Sunday to face NC State's Nick Horton in the third-place match. Saba outlasted third-seeded Horton, earning a third-place finish in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. The third-place finish was Saba’s second of the tournament, after the Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native placed third in doubles action alongside junior Raphael Hemmeler a day earlier.

Sophomore Daniel McCall competed in the seventh-place match of the white draw after a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 loss to South Florida’s Sasha Gozun on Saturday. McCall rebounded to defeat Wake Forest’s Nicholas Osterline 6-3, 6-3 to earn a seventh-place overall finish.

Duke concluded the tournament with an overall singles record of 21-8.

The Blue Devils return to action in two weeks in the qualifying rounds of the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The qualifying rounds run Saturday, Sept. 28 through Wednesday, Oct. 2, with the main draw slated for Thursday, Oct. 3 through Sunday, Oct. 6.
