The team has been an integral part of the FIU sports scene since 1989. The first squad was called the Sun Blazer Dancers. Since then the team has gone through many changes, even being called the Panther Dancers in an attempt to rebuild the squad. But, the team has always been at its best under the name of Golden Dazzlers, which is why the team was reborn in 2001. After many years of back and forth placement throughout many school departments, the squad is now recognized under FIU's Athletic Department and is considered the University's official dance team. With the support of FIU Athletics, the program has grown tremendously and is now one of the top college dance teams in the nation.

The one thing that has remained constant for the Golden Dazzlers has been the program's loyalty to the National Cheerleaders Association under the former NCA Danz, now known as the NDA (National Dance Alliance), as the entire team travels to summer dance camp. Auditions for the Competition Team are held within the team in the month of December.

Paulina Munoz serves as the Coach and Director to the Golden Dazzlers Dance Team program. Munoz is an FIU alumna with a Bachelor's Degree in mass communications and was a Dazzler herself from 1998-2001. She also served as the assistant coach to the Golden Dazzlers from 2001-07 and has helped out when needed ever since. Throughout the years, Munoz worked closely with Brenda Popritkin, the Golden Dazzlers' previous coach and director, to rebuild the program to what it is today.

Rounding out the staff is assistant coach Allison Stone, a Dazzler alum and current Miami Dade School teacher, and Gina Todd, a Dazzler alumnae.
