Sun Belt Conference All-Time Women’s Soccer Team

 

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Sun Belt Conference, the league honored the all-time top 30 players in the sport as its all-time women’s soccer team. The Golden Panthers placed three players of this 30th-anniversary team.

 

Michelle O’Brien (FIU, 1998-2001)

Two-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year honoree, first-team All-Sun Belt Conference, All-Sun Belt Tournament selection (2000-2001)...all-time FIU leader in shots (288), goals (58) and points (134), second in assists (18)...a third-team All-Southeast Region selection in 2001.

 

Sasja Odenyo (FIU, 2000-01)

In two seasons, scored 37 goals and tallied 13 assists...Third-team Southeast Region selection by the NSCAA in 2000...finished that season third in points per game (2.71) and second in goals per game (1.19) in the NCAA and finished with a goal or an assist in 17 of the 21 (81%) games...had a goal or an assist in nine of ten Sun Belt Conference games on the way to becoming SBC Newcomer of the Year and unanimous first-team all-conference...voted MVP of the conference tournament, after kicking in five goals and one assist to lead the team to the championship...scored a team-high and school record 25 goals. Earned second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors in 2001, scoring 12 goals and recording a team-high six assists.

 

Ifeoma Dieke (FIU, 1999-2003)

The first former Golden Panthers to play in the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA)...Played the 2003 and ‘04 seasons in the WUSA with the Atlanta Beat, earning a spot as a defensive midfield following an invitational tryout...credited with scoring the 700th goal in WUSA history in the Beat’s 2-1 victory over the Washington Freedom...remains active in professional soccer, playing on the Scotland National Team...scored four goals and recorded six assists as a defender in her four seasons at FIU...voted first-team All-Sun Belt and to the SBC all-tournament team in 2001...awarded second-team honors in 2000...selected third-team All-Southeast Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 2000.
